We know our network is full of talented bloggers of all types, many of you are artistic and creative in your own ways. That’s why we’d like to enlist your help in designing our new logo.
We’re already offering $250 to the winning design through our contest on 99designs.com, but if you’re a college student with a valid .edu email (meaning pretty much all TCBN members), we’ll sweeten the deal by offering one week of free promotion on our new CollegeBlender.com. We’ll create a special spot just for you, above the fold of course, where you can place an ad, image, message, whatever-you-want, for one week. If you win, we can work out the details, but keep in mind, some obvious limitations apply… email us if you can’t figure them out :]
Visit our contest page to catch up on the design brief and submit a logo of your own!
Big news! After months of work, the new version of The College Blog Network is on the horizon. So much has changed that we will reincarnate as a new site- CollegeBlender.com. We will still continue to focus on blogs, but will be expanding our base to music, art, and much more- all created by other college students and alumni.
We sent out a site-wide email yesterday, but because many people don’t check their school emails during the summer we wanted to add a blog post so those of you enjoying your summer can also get in on the good news!
We are working to get the new site live in the next 2 weeks or so, and as a small “thank you” for sticking with us from the start we want to offer all current [and new] TCBN users the chance to choose their CollegeBlender usernames before the site goes live.
Note: You will be able to provide a first and last name in addition to your username once the site is live, and your username will be used for your “vanity URL” aka: http://collegeblender.com/users/username.
If you forgot your login information just contact us and we will get you rock’n and rollin’ at the speed of the internet. Keep your eyes peeled, big new things are just around the corner!
Thanks again for your continued support and awesome posts,
The College Blog Network / CollegeBlender Team
It’s f*cking SUMMERTIME people! Finals are over, school is out and the sun is shining! For some this means a summer of slaving away at a “job” [me], and for others it means days of carefree partying and enjoying the warm weather. We will be here alllll summmmerrr lonnnggg hookin’ you up with some of the most interesting posts from college people all over the world!
If you tried to find us this weekend, we were gone! :poof: Our [now previous] hosting provider pushed the off button and didn’t even tell us! As soon as we discovered what happened we hired a gang of ninjas to take out said hosting company. We have since moved all the data/sites/blah over to our new hosting at rackspace we are very happy with it so far :).
It’s been a while since the last best of post so there is alot to catch up on. One of our newer blog-members Onward State posted about how Penn State student Nicky Kundnani stole thousands from his fellow students through a fake hedge fund. And people say you don’t learn anything useful in college! Wall Street would love this guy!
In other news, the kids at Timothy Dwight are almost out for summer! But it isn’t over yet. They are still trapped together, tormented by “Pent-up roommate angst. Fury. Rage.”!!! There is only one way to deal with these types of feelings… Gangsta Rap.
Last but not least I give you this non-tcbn-related-but-equally-college-related vid from the good people at the Daily Show [which we love]. I give you… ASU College! [applause]
That’s all for this episode, stay tuned to our RSS or Twitter for the next post! Oh yeah, and TCBN v2 is coming soon!
Whoa! Hostmonster [our previous hosting provider] suspended our service without notifying us at all! As a result you may have noticed the site has been down! The good news is we have moved to newer, faster servers in order to prepare for the new launch [not yet though]. We are still working on moving the current stuff over to the new servers so for now enjoy the blog, we should have the main index up by tomorrow. Sorry for the downtime!

Hey Everyone! You may have noticed last week that blogwire was slow to post updates from your blogs. Updates were slow because we were busy behind the scenes hooking up the current iteration of TCBN (v1) to the new v2 engine! What this means is:
There are a lot more blogs showing up on blogwire- this is because blogs the v1 engine was unable to index are now being indexed by the v2 engine, which means the indexing rate has gone from something like 30% to 100% which marks a huge improvement to the system in general.
Post date/times are much more accurate, they all show in EST at the moment. If you notice a problem with the time(s) or content of your posts please contact us and we’ll fix it asap.
Special characters are all cleaned up. Previously some ‘?’ characters were showing up in a few places but the new engine remedies all those issues.
Because the v2 engine is much more efficient we have also stepped up the speed at which blogwire is updated. It refreshes about every 15min at the moment and we plan on stepping this up even more when we officially release 2.0.
TCBN is in a bit of a crunch because we want to give our users a totally awesome experience but we also have a very small (but super efficient) team. This means that the v2 release has taken a little longer than anticipated, but we hope when its finally out you’ll find it’s been worth the wait. In the meantime here are some teasers to give you a little taste of what’s coming…
Few other announcements from the community:
TCBN Member Reuxben is looking for some people to do a summer writing/art collaboration. He posts some very cool stuff. If you’re interested check out his blog to get in touch with him!
TCBN’r imaclellan is a very talented photographer from Tufts University. He has started Free Print Wednesday. The first people to comment on his posts on wednesday get a free print from him! I love seeing people doing community stuff like this! Definitely keep an eye on blogwire or his RSS feed for your chance to win!
